A change in climate which is attributed directly or indirectly to human activity that alter the composition of the global atmosphere and which is in addition to natural climate variability observed over comparable time periods. As a result of these rapid changes in climate, reduction in agriculture production, variation in rainfall, rise in sea level, receding of glaciers, shrinkage of forest cover, increase in diseases and insect pests, shift of species towards pole etc. had been reported. Carbon sequestration refers to the removal of carbon, as CO2, from the atmosphere through photosynthesis and dissolution, and the storage of C in soil as organic matter or secondary carbonates. Present volume describe the carbon sequestration rate in diffrent land use system in terai zone of West Bengal.
