As environmental legislation grows more stringent in response to the escalating climate crisis, some of the world’s largest corporations have adopted fraudulent mechanisms to keep their margins of profit, and achieve improper competitive advantage. Such mechanisms can lead to problems in the supply chain, a decrease in market value, diminished trust in brands, increased surveillance of companies, as well as damage to the environment. This book offers a holistic view of the nature and consequences of environmental fraud, bringing together practical examples, empirical research data, and management theory. It will be of interest to academics working in the fields of sustainability management, business ethics, and corporate social and environmental responsibility.

Mauro Fracarolli Nunes is an Assistant Professor, researcher, and writer. He holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from ESCP Europe, Paris campus, as part of the École Doctorale de Management Panthéon-Sorbonne, a Master of Science and Bachelor in Business Administration from Escola de Administração de Empresas de São Paulo at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV-EAESP). Following a decade of corporate career in multinational companies and entrepreneurship, Dr. Fracarolli Nunes engages in multidisciplinary research, approaching issues such as Sustainability, Sustainable Development, Corporate Social Responsibility, Corporate Environmental Responsibility, Sustainable Supply Chain Management, and Business Ethics. More specifically, he focuses on the gap between sustainability speech and practice (i.e. corporate hypocrisy), the dissemination of negative events through firms, industries, and supply chains (e.g. Rana Plaza disaster, British Petroleum oil spill, Volkswagen Dieselgate) and the sensibility of different groups of stakeholders (e.g. investors, customers, employees) to critical sustainability issues such as modern slavery, child labor, environmental fraud, corporate corruption and the implementation of green practices. His work has been published in journals such as International Journal of Operations and Production Management, European Management Journal, and Critical Perspectives on International Business.
