The story was developed by Matt Burgess, author of the innovative children's book called Skylar and George Washington. Brilliant was born out of Matt's experience adopting his son and daughter from China. Brilliant is designed to encourage all parents and excite all children, but the symbolism is particularly meaningful to adoptive and foster families.
