Boronic acid compounds and their derivatives being highly fluorescent and sensitive to environmental factors makes the best class of dyes for sensing applications. The detailed analysis of any novel member of the boronic dye family may unlock new understanding and utilization of respective dye for various effective applications. Here we report the theoretical and experimental study of the heterocyclic compound, boronic acid derivative namely 2-Methoxy-5-fluorophenyl boronic acid (2MEFPBA). During the determination of ground and excited-state dipole moments, a Bathochromic shift with increasing solvent polarity is observed indicating pi pi* transition due to intermolecular charge-transfer interactions. 2MEFPBA has been investigated using the (DFT) calculations with B3LYP/6-31 + + G (d, p) basis set. Inferable from the significance of solvent mixtures in practical chemistry, Toluene and Butanol mixtures are used to study the preferential solvation behavior of 2MEFPBA. Here we understand specific and nonspecific interactions of the solute with solvent. The binding interaction of 2MFEPBAwith various sugars is investigated in aqueous medium at pH 7.4 using fluorescence spectroscopy.
