This book examines the transformation of socioeconomic relations between Taiwan and China as the Taiwanese economy has become more deeply integrated into the Greater China region. Specifically, it focuses on how the rise of China in recent decades has altered the socioeconomic power relations across the region, and the impact of the huge flow of people from Taiwan and Hong Kong to China. The book is divided into three sections: 'production', which examines how investments from Taiwan to China have transformed production networks; 'community and daily life', which explores the impact of cross boundary mobility and the integration of Taiwanese migrants into Chinese communities; and finally, 'identity formation', which engages with what is one of the most important issues in contemporary Taiwanese society. By contributing to our knowledge of the micro-processes of socio-economic transformations across the region, this book helps us to understand more fully the future formation and transformation of Greater China. As such, it will be of great interest to students and scholars of Taiwan studies, Chinese society and Chinese economics.
