This thesis contains detailed study on borate-based glasses and transparent glass-microcrystal composites. These glasses were found to be crystallizing to known non-linear optical phases on controlled heating. These glasses have been investigated for their dielectric and electrical relaxation properties.Several interesting features such as high ionic conductivity behavior, marginally low dielectric loss and high dielectric constant behavior along with low thermal coefficient for dielectric constant were observed in these glasses and were interpreted using various techniques and models. The combination of these dielectric characteristics suggests that these are good candidates for electrical energy storage device applications.
