"Theophany" is indispensable and dynamic in the life of certain principal biblical characters. Their religious lives and actions were significantly guided and informed by theophany. Without such experiences, none of them would have set on their various journeys, when the divine call came to them. Today theophanies are interpreted in various ways, more often, in contradiction to the Biblical messages. The question addressed here is this: Is it possible to have a holistic understanding of the Biblical theophanies for modern readers? In response to this question, the researcher seeks to bring out the meanings of theophany from the liberation perspective. I undertake exegetical studies on three Old Testament passages, which come under the following categories of the Old Testament: Law, Prophecy, and Wisdom.1) Genesis 18:1-152) Isaiah 6: 1-133) Job 38:1-41: 34I undertake a descriptive study of Dalit primitive religion and Dalit theophany. My special concern is the extent to which Dalit people may have been misled by certain charismatic groups about the nature and the role of theophany in the social liberation of Dalits.
