If we could read the thoughts of Aku, leader of a small clan of Sapiens living in the fertile valley of Mesopotamia on the shore of the Black Sea 7500 years ago, it might read something like .. Life is good. It is getting warmer and food is plentiful. For some time now members of my group have heard stories from our trading partners that the Sea Without End, beyond the great hill where the sun vanishes, is reclaiming the land. I indeed have verified this on my recent voyage. I have given much thought to this matter. Perhaps the Sea Without End God is at war with our Sea God. I must encourage all to pray to our God to give her strength and help her protect our valley and our way of life. But the Sea Without End God is very powerful and my clan must reconnect with our old ways and be prepared to move quickly and go to higher ground. If we need to move, I hope our God will give me a vision. It would be nice if the Gods would stop fighting with each other, but I guess that is better than them fighting us. They make life tough sometimes. Some days I am not sure I really believe in these gods; but then how else would I and all I see, be? The tribe did survive, even though Aku's Black Sea God lost and the flood wiped out many other tribes. Those genes of Aku's people became incorporated into me. So it is important to consider how Aku came to be, indeed how our universe came to be. How did anything happen? Becoming addresses Aku's last question. It includes three topics: (1) the origin of our universe; (2) the origin of life here on Earth; (3) the development of conciseness. From the beginning of the Universe to the present there were many possible paths to take. Becoming takes the reader on that unique path that led to me, an 80-year-old Homo Sapien living in the 21st century. The goal is to arrive at a strong story to explain how and why the events that opened that path came about. It does not use mathematics but instead relies on analogies to tell these stories.
