Its enhanced lipid solubility allows superior diffusion through soft tissues and dense cortical bone, making buccal infiltration anesthesia more effective, even in mandibular molars. Unlike lignocaine, articaine undergoes rapid plasma metabolism in addition to hepatic metabolism, resulting in a shorter half-life and reduced risk of systemic toxicity-an important benefit in pediatric patients.Both agents act by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels, preventing nerve impulse conduction.
