In India, Bacterial Leaf Blight (BLB) caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) is found to be prevalent in all rice growing regions and one of the major factors in reduction of rice production. Since the introduction and cultivation of new, high-yielding but susceptible rice varieties over a large acreage in recent years, the disease has become one of the most serious problems of rice cultivation in India. For the management of rice BLB, various control measures are being used but efficient and reliable control measure for it is unavailable so far. Resistant varieties are not so popular among the farmers and host resistance is also not stable due to variability and emergence of new races in Xoo. Keeping the importance of rice as well as the BLB in view, the present book has been containing all efforts to address the above issues. The book comprising details about suitable culture age, standard inoculation technique, suitable crop growth stage and efficient methodology for induction of BLB in rice under artificial inoculation conditions in addition of in vitro and in vivo efficacy of various antibiotics, antibacterial chemicals, their combination and botanicals against Xoo.
