This volume is a contribution to a study of change within the Catholic Church. It is part of the Authority and Governance Project begun in 19996 by the Queen's Foundation for Ecumenical Theological Education. The main focus of that project has been problems associated with the nature, exercise and experience of authority within the Roman Catholic Church, although it is recognized that problems are not confined to that particular church. The book has been divided into six parts. The first is devoted to the history and nature of authority. The second deals with the often misunderstood concepts of the sense of faith, the sense of faithfulness and the consensus of faith. Part three looks at ecumenical dimensions, covering statements on the subject of authority in the Church; while part four comes under the heading of organizational culture and authority. The last two parts cover marginalization and authority and then suggest some steps to be taken to achieve the sentiments of the previous parts. The book covers local church as well as the central body.
