• Research Interests and Achievements:
Professor Lei’s recent research focuses on marine benthic microbial food webs, including microbial diversity and distribution and tropical relationships, taxonomy and phylogeny of benthic foraminifera. The recent projects (as a PI) included the Knowledge Innovation Program of CAS, the National Science Foundation of China, and compiling “Specifications for the survey of marine microbenthos” as the Marine Professional Standard for National Marine Bureau, etc. Now he is an expert reviewer of the National Science Foundation of China and an Expert Member of Shandong Sea Area Use Demonstration. He is also a member of “International Society of Protistology” and reviewer of several Chinese academic journals in English. More than 40 papers were published till now, including 20 papers in SCI-journals, in addition, as the coauthor of chapters he participated in compiling of 3 Monographs.
This atlas gives a comprehensive account on the benthic foraminiferal fauna in the China Seas, especially on the Bohai and the Yellow Seas. Details of about 183 species, subjected to 5 orders, 52 families and 92 genera are included. For each species there is a brief description of the morphological characteristics, synonymised names, measurements and geographical distribution worldwide, as well as a top-level elegant plate illustrated the fossil and live specimens. It could be used as a reference book for researchers working at marine biology, marine geology, micropaleontology, paleoceanography, paleobiology and related fields.
