This book explores the potentials of a news agency in generating contents for mainstream media of varying sizes and scope as well as blogs and other online publications. The dynamism and revolution in the communication sector, which led to the emergence of new media, is steadily threatening the relevance of news agency as the key media content provider. It is against this background that this study assesses the level of dependence of Nigerian newspapers on the services of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). This is with a view to evaluating the extent to which the agency is assisting the Nigerian newspapers in their daily newsgathering, processing and dissemination. In pursuit of these objectives, the study examines the history, development and diversity of news agencies with a special focus on the NAN. The study shows how the News Agency of Nigeria is leveraging on opportunities offered by its standing as the only national news agency to remain a dominant national media content provider in the country. Many operators considered this economical for the Nigerian media industry.
