Before World War I, Armin Reumann (1889-1952) was a rising star of the Munich avant-garde scene. He spent the four war years on different fronts in France and the Balkans where he created hundreds of works. Most of them have never been shown to the public and are now at the center of an extensive exhibition. His paintings, sketches, watercolors, and drawings amount to a comprehensive and acute canvas of World War I. They show the thick of the battle but also dwell on aspects such as injury, death, grief, imprisonment, and the relationship between soldiers and women. These pictures show an artistic quality that connects documentation with a painterly interest in foreign environments and a modern creative will.

Damian Dombrowski, geboren 1966, vertritt derzeit eine Professur am Institut für Kunstgeschichte der Universität Würzburg. Er war Stipendiat der Bibliotheca Hertziana in Rom und Member des Getty Institutes for Advanced Studies in Princeton. Neben zahlreichen Veröffentlichungen über das Werk Sandro Botticellis verfasste er auch den Kommentar zu Giorgio Vasaris Lebensbeschreibung des Malers.
