This collection of documents were originally requested by my Jewish friend Derek for his work at his church and amongst those he was encouraging to seek after truth. They proved to be so successful that they have been brought together in this book. There are demons, the Lord Jesus Christ drove them out, including a legion of demons from one man whose combined strength prevented any chains or any other restraint from holding him. Yet with a command from the Son of God incarnate, they were gone out of the man. What is interesting is the total lack of gladness for the man, who had been the scourge of the area for a long time, being freed from the demons . The people, particularly those who owned the herd of pigs that careered down the bank into the lake, were more concerned about their financial loss. It is rare to hear a sermon about the Devil or his accompanying demons, or for the subject to be raised in Sunday schools, youth or Bible study groups. Yet Paul spoke about them and taught the believers at Ephesus about the armoury available to believers in the fight against principalities and powers, against the rulers of darkness of this age and against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. This lack of teaching on this subject matter is grievous to believers because such actively adversarial forces are real and dangerous. This first work is extremely important as a starting point, but further study is recommended. The second chapter deals with the God man relationship which is spiritual and sadly misunderstood by many believers. The study of Hebrews chapter 12 which starts with the verse " ... since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses ..." and is entitled "Jesus, Our Example of Endurance" is most helpful and encouraging This is followed by the centrality of the cross, taking God seriously and an item on Giving which Derek asked me to write and which brought together a man and his wife who were living separate lives in the marital home. The are now living together as a transformed married couple. Finally is a chapter entitled "Excuse Me" which is very challenging.
