The Architectural Performance Modelling Method ispresented as a criteria for selecting theorganisation of a parallel program based onestimating its probable performance. An ArchitecturalPerformance Model is based on selecting from theArchitectural Patterns for Parallel Programming(descriptions of coodinations commonly used inParallel Programming), a component simulator(representing a simulation of a processingcomponents behaviour), and a performance analysis ofparallel applications (in which the information onsystem performance is examined). Parallel programssimulated using the Architectural PerformanceModelling Method range from a complete parallelprogram to a partially implemented program design.The simulation of parallel systems, using theinformation about the problem to be solved, theavailable resources, and architectural patternsdescribing overall coordinations of the parallelprograms, makes it possible to identify the bestperforming architectural solution for the systembeing built.

Jorge Luis Ortega-Arjona is a full time lecturer at the
Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Sciences, UNAM. He received
a B.Sc. degree in Electronic Engineering as well as his M.Sc.
degree in Computer Science at UNAM, and obtained his Ph.D. degree
at the University College London,UK.
