The self-sufficient star-scouring space station (referred to by its inhabitants simply as the Shell) may not be a utopia free from strife and struggles, but it comes quite close and its citizens are-with the exception of a few inquisitive souls-quite satisfied to live as long as they like, know everything about anything they care to ask after, scar and modify (or outright replace) their bodies without permanent consequence and generally go about their day in permanent, coddled adolescence, unaware of, ignoring, or in certain cases contributing to the subtle way the Shell itself controls and twists every inhabitant's life. The story as it's told is about three such inhabitants who seem to meet at a concert, and go on to take their separate paths in life. Nikki suffers a dark internal struggle that drives him over the edge, Wadjet endures an adventure with action and suspense, and The Kid gets tangled in a sordid love triangle. Their paths converge once again on a shadowy figure, Kincaid, who seems to be at the root of everyone's trouble, but something is not as it seems.
