Urinary tract infection is a pathology that is always in the news. Indeed, due to its frequency and its complications, an adequate treatment is necessary. This treatment is becoming more and more delicate because, over the years, we have observed an emergence of bacterial resistance (particularly in enterobacteria) to antibiotics, which has become a major public health problem on a worldwide scale, putting the validity of the therapeutic arsenal at stake. Given the importance of this phenomenon, we conducted a study at the Ad Lucem Hospital of Bonamoussadi (located in Douala, Cameroon) on the resistance profile of enterobacteria isolated from urinary tract infections to commonly used antibiotics. The study showed that the increase in antibiotic resistance among Enterobacteriaceae is far from negligible, which justifies regular review and harmonization of empirical treatments for urinary tract infections.
