Communication during flights is still rare and expensive. Direct users' connectivity to terrestrial or satellite networking is not feasible, available solutions based on Satellite Networking have many limitations. This book presents a feasibility study on a new proposal solution called Airborne Networking: it provides connectivity on board of airplanes, by using only flying airplanes, with airports that act as access points to terrestrial networks. A novel Software Tool analyses real flight data in order to understand the network scenario. It will be proven that Airborne Networking can guarantee better performance. A complete Airborne Network Design is presented: Wireless Mobile Mesh Network and Routing Protocols suitable for it have been addressed in detail. This book can be addressed in different modes: a comparative deep analysis of Airborne Networking; a provider of instruments and guidelines to address this problem; a proposal for a novel self-sustaining solution to expand communication in the sky. This book directs to all people interested in technology, to researchers aimed to expand communication, and also to Airline Companies launched towards new business opportunity.
