The interest of this research is to test the hypothesis that presupposes that the availability of solid institutions (in the noble sense of the term) boosts economic growth in the case of Algeria. To test this hypothesis, we resorted to doctrinaire arguments and an empirical test via statistical analysis. The various tests carried out on data covering the period (1990 - 2016) showed that the effect of institutional quality on growth is neutral. This confirms the atypical nature of the Algerian economy, which is difficult to circumscribe by institutional theory, despite the irrefutable importance of the latter in framing the economy.
