Various theories have been put forward as to what causes it: these range from a genetic factor (if a close blood relative has the disease, then you have a 20 per cent chance of developing the disease too); to an autoimmune disorder, bacterial infection or low stomach acid. The usual age range for someone to be diagnosed with Crohn's disease is between 20-30, but children and older adults can be diagnosed with the disease too. Various treatment options are currently available including: dietary and lifestyle changes, surgery, drugs and nutritional supplements.
