German Tina Bara and Italian Alba D'Urbano have worked together since 2000, creating works that deal with female identity, the body and personal history. This volume explores their combination of documentary strategies with performance-related image production, linking narrative and conceptual elements.
Tina Bara and Alba D'Urbano have been working together since 2000. Both are professors at the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts. Tina Bara grew up in East Germany, Alba D'Urbano in Tivoli near Rome. Both women incorporate their personal experiences and memories into their work and often also make these the object of joint artistic processing and mastery. Woman, her body, dealing with images of her body, what she wants for her children, her relationship with everyday life and particular social circumstances are linked to the close examination of image development strategies on a wide variety of levels. The artists combine documentary strategies with performance-related image production and narrative with conceptual elements, and link text and sound elements to one another. Their intensive dialogue is proving to be extremely stable and mutually fruitful.§§The cleverly designed book also highlights several different levels and makes clear the complexity of the work of this artistic duo.
