Cooper, Frederick Frederick Cooper is Professor of History at New York University. Author and co-author of a number of books on the history of Africa and of empires, his recent books include Citizenship between Empire and Nation: Remaking France and French Africa, 1945-1960 (2014) and Citizenship, Inequality, and Difference: Historical Perspectives (2018). His books have won prizes from the American Historical Association, the African Studies Association, and the World History Association. He has conducted research in both East and West Africa, and has taught at Harvard University, the University of Michigan, and has been a visiting professor in France. He was awarded the 'Distinguished Africanist Award' by the African Studies Association in 2020.
