Pramod Kumar Pandey is the Director, ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research, Bhimtal, India. Before joining as Director, he has served as Dean, College of Fisheries, Central Agricultural University, Imphal for more than 5 years and before that, as Scientist, Senior Scientist and Principal Scientist in Indian Council of Agricultural Research- Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai for 27 years. He has completed his undergraduate from Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur, Master and PhD in Fisheries Science from ICAR- Central Institute for Fisheries Education, Mumbai. His major research interest is aquatic environment management. He has published more than 140, peer-reviewed international and national research papers, 6 books and has delivered several invited talks and keynote addresses in numerous national and international seminars and symposia. He has been the Team Leader of the mega research project “Centre of Excellence in Fisheries and Aquaculture Biotechnology” funded by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India. Presently, he is serving as President, Coldwater Fisheries Society of India and earlier, he has served as president, North East Society for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Agartala and General Secretary, Indian Fisheries Association based at ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai, India. He has been conferred with several fellowships i.e. Zoological Society of India, Gaya; Society of Biological Sciences & Rural Development, Allahabad and national awards such as Best Teacher Award by Heeralal Chaudhuri Fisheries Foundation, Mumbai; and Paryayvaran Sanrakshak Award 2020 by Bharat Tarun Sangh, Alwar.
Janmejay Parhi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fish Genetics and Breeding, College of Fisheries, Central Agricultural University, Imphal. He has completed his graduation from Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, Post Graduation (Gold Medalist) and Ph.D. from the ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai. His area of research interest is functional genomics, Reproductive physiology and Molecular endocrinology of fish. He has published two books and more than 40 peer-reviewed international and national research articles. He has completed many research projects and have undergone six months research training at IRTA, Spain as a part of research award by Govt of India. He has been conferred with several awards i.e. Dr Heeralal Choudhuri young scientist award, DR C. V. Kulkarni scientist award by ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai, Prof Harswarup Gold Medal by Zoological Society of India, Gaya and Dr S. Ayyapan Gold Medal by IFSI, ICAR-CIFRI Barrackpore, India.
The book covers various biotechnological research efforts and their applications in fisheries and aquaculture, especially in the area of fish breeding, health management, nutrition and culture. Application of the recent biotechnological tools, like Transcriptomics, Transgenesis, Nanotechnology, Metabolomics, RNAi and CRISPRi Technologies in the field of fisheries research are included in the book.
