Admergill is a quiet valley straddling the old boundary of east Lancashire and west Yorkshire. This, however, has not always been the case. The valley here once formed an integral part of the ancient trade routes running through the district and this saw the creation of deep defensive ditches and fortified mounds - evidence of a turbulent past that can still be seen today. The 840 acre Admergill estate has a long and chequered history stretching back into the Iron Age at least. The land here has been fought over by kings, queens and monastic abbeys while the local nobility have long held it to have been their own. Within this book can be found hitherto undiscovered local history, from stone circles to a lost Medieval hamlet. On many occasions the history of Admergill spilled over its many boundary ditches into the surrounding areas of Blacko, White Moor and Brogden (Barnoldswick) and these form part of the important research to be found within these covers. The Admergill district of East Lancashire and West Craven is a unique parcel of hitherto undiscovered, and fascinating local history.
