The study is an investigation of service-learningpedagogy to infuse passion into accounting educationand develop the American Institute of CertifiedPublic Accountants (AICPA) Core Competencies. Asample of twenty-eight students in an accountingclass conducted research on the Volunteer Income TaxAssistance (VITA) Program. They conducted siteresearch; designed and created a website; developedand distributed advertising and training materials;developed and implemented financial literacy trainingclasses for the socioeconomically marginalizedpeople in our community; and developed andimplemented recruitment sessions for VITA volunteers.Extensive qualitative data was collected from studentjournals, meeting minutes, Blackboard discussions,focus group interviews, and structured open-endedquestionnaires; researcher field notes and journals;and community member feedback. Rich and in-depthevidence of student development of passion and AICPACore Competencies is provided by thismultidimensional and multidisciplinaryservice-learning experience enhanced by holisticapproaches (cognitive, affective, spiritual, multipleintelligences, and inclusive education).
