This book has been written for use as a basic text book in an introductory course in abnormal psychology and is appropriate for both undergraduate and graduate courses. It may also be worthwhile, courses in psychiatric social work or nursing and could be helpful to students enrolled in various practicum courses or psychology related courses. A short textbook aims to provide a brief yet comprehensive account of psychiatric disorders and their allied aspects. While striving to make the book simple and easy to follow, an attempt has been made to keep the book associated to the most recent developments in classification, terminology and treatment methods. We focused deliberately on cases in the book that illustrate particular problems that are of interest to students of abnormal psychology. In addition to describing "classic" behavioural symptoms (e.g., hallucinations, compulsive rituals or specific fears), we emphasized the social and theoretical context in which these disorders appear as well as life problems that are significant in determining the person's overall adjustment.
