The transdermal delivery of a drug is novel drug delivery system to facilitate transport of many drugs through the skin that reaches to systemic circulation. Nowadays, utilization of pressure sensitive adhesives in developing transdermal matrix system has gained interest and provides therapeutic quantity of drug moiety through skin at a predetermined and controlled rate. The aim of the present study was to design and characterize transdermal matrixpatches using functional and non functional grades of acrylic PSA, Duro-Tak for sustaining the release of model drug Carvedilol. The various grades of acrylic polymers used in this study were(1) Duro Tak 87- 4098 with no functional group (2) Duro-Tak 387-2051 and Duro-Tak 387-2052which contains carboxyl group. The later constitute with presence of cross linker. (3) Duro-Tak87-2510 which contains hydroxyl group.A single layer and double layer transdermal drug delivery system has been prepared with above mentioned functional and non functional grades of acrylic PSA. The combined effect of PSA in single and double layer TDDs affected the drug permeation.
