In her work the author has selected the whole language approach as her theorectical underpinning for helping students to learn to write using technology. The whole language approach encourages students to extend themselves based on the premise that langugae is acquired through active use. Learning a language necessarily involves social interaction and the process of writing is a part of this interaction. Since the authors experience through many years of teaching has shown that there is no single method to be used when teaching and learning a foreign language, the author has focused on ameliorating student motivation using any methodologies possible. Experimen­tation and study thus led her to use the whole language approach with computers and the internet to help her students improve their writing skills, engaging them in writing in a second language, and motivating them for greater success in their language learning.

Dawid, Sister Doloretta Sister Doloretta Dawid CSFN received her Doctor of Arts degree in Foreign Language Instruction with a concentration in Italian from Stony Brook University, NY. She is presently an Associate Professor of Modern Languages at Holy Family University in Philadelphia, PA where she teaches French and Italian.
