This research work focuses on the study of Pragmatics. It's an analysis of the well known novel Pride and Prejudice penned by Jane Austen in a pragmatic point of view. As far as the use of language is concerned, this study explains pragmatic aspects and language elements in light of the violation of the Cooperative Principle proposed by H.P. Grice with reference to the maxims namely Quality, Quantity, Relevance and Manner. The study has used various aspects of pragmatics to examine the remarkable extract and explained them in the workable model. In addition it observes the author's unique style of using language. Though, various possibilities can be traced in any conversation, this research study attempts to analyze the function and intention of the utterance with the help of a speech situation and its aspects. The concept of Cooperative Principle by Grice is a remarkable study to analyze the conversation between the participants.
