The mutual relationship between environment and corrosion has not been studied in depth so far. When a corrosion-related accident such as a major leak from a pipeline or the collapse of a structure happens, corrosion engineers and environmental engineers each look at it from their own viewpoint. These viewpoints have not been systematically investigated and analyzed within the same context so far. We will show that corrosion prevention is not an environmentally friendly activity. Thus, to help preserve environment, one should try to minimize corrosion to further minimize the continuous use of corrosion mitigation methods. This is for the first time that economic or industrial importance of corrosion is not given as the main reasons for its mitigating but, instead, the fact that by less corrosion, less corrosion management techniques and ,thus, less damage to the environment will be done. The reader of this book will get a very new insight into the necessity of corrosion management in terms of its environmental effects and impacts.
