Nature is a great source of medicine and most of the medicines are prepared from medicinal plants from the ancient period to revolutionize significantly in the arena of medical science. Such manufactured medicines are being used as traditional medicine, ayurveda and tribal medicine. Approximately, five thousand medicinal plants among overall about 6,000 species are found to grow nook and corner of Bangladesh. Zingiber officinale is one of the most main useful and well known medicinal plants in Bangladesh for its authentic medicinal value(s) that has been used for the treatment of diarrhoea, arthritis, cough, gingivitis, motion and sea sickness, nausea, vomiting, postoperative emesis and hyperemesis gravidarum. Z. officinale shows different types of pharmacological action such as antimicrobial, anticancer activity, antiulcerogenic, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory because of having a large number of biologically active compounds, such as gingerols, shogaol and zingerone etc. Therefore it is compulsory to propagate Z. officinale in vitro to face tremendous demand of it.
