The character of the cooperative movement in Delhi reflects a changing trend in recent times. The present case study has focused intensively on its structure and functions, expectations of the members from society and also their perceptions with regard to the contribution of cooperatives in improving the socio economic condition of its members. The Delhi University Cooperative Thrift and Credit Society is doing quite well by the sustained efforts and due to the regular thrift savings of the members, and has made significant contribution in improving the socio-economic conditions of its members. The success is mainly due to the adoption of various structural and functional factors which are worth emulating to other cooperatives. The study will contribute towards facilitating a deeper insight into various aspects related to the working of cooperatives especially urban thrift and credit society and in that sense capacitate the professional social workers working in the field to utilize this knowledge to strengthen the urban cooperative credit movement as also mobilizing people towards purposeful participation in cooperatives for their sustainable development.
