Independence is not linked to the physical or intellectual capability to care for one-self without support, independence is created by having support when and how one needs it. Independent living centre is a state where all impaired persons have the same choice, control and freedom as other natives at homes, work and members of the community. The purpose of the study was to sought out the problems of the impaired students registered in the Independent Living Centre. Independent living centre play an important role in the education of visually impaired students. LCWU provides this opportunity for the visually impaired students as an Independent Living Centre. It provides many facilities like scanning, braille, slate frames, braille, braille embossers, Perkin machines, editing, whole books in braille form, transportation etc. It is an interpretive research. The main aims of this study was: 1) to explore the aims and objectives of ILC. 2) Sought out the problems of impaired persons registered in ILC. To analyze the opportunities available for impaired students and to determine the needs and facilities provided to impaired students registered in the Independent Living Centre at LCWU.
