The book is intended to highlight the application of biodegradable polymers to Surgery for Maxillofacial Trauma in particular and to Craniofacial Surgery in general. Recently, new materials have been developed to combine the benefits of rigid fixation with the amenities of biodegradation, obviating the need for implant removal, minimizing the risk of other complications such as injuries by hardware in case of refracture, no interference with postoperative radiographs and diagnostic imaging, and causing minimal interference with craniofacial growth in children compared to conventional miniplate osteosynthesis.
