An OpenGL-based video engine using a secondary graphics processing unit for digital video compositing is proposed. This approach has been developed at Peak Software Technologies GmbH to fulfill the growing demand for more realistic rendering capa- bilities and real-time performance in television broadcasting. The Viz Engine as their flagship product is used by most major television networks around the world. Their constant crave for graphically richer television content and virtual studio environ- ments is pushing the limits of even the most current video hardware. This approach discusses an adaption of Viz Engine to render advanced and flexible video effects di- rectly on multiple standard GPUs, instead of relying on dedicated video hardware. The proposed adaption has to cope with the rising demands of the media industry to produce standard and high-definition video output with advanced compositing effects in real-time.
