The plays of Martin McDonagh - a contemporary Anglo- Irish playwright, who was born and raised in London by Irish parents - have been translated into more than 30 languages and have been widely staged in theatres all over the world. The number of plays presented to Viennese audiences adds up to four out of his six plays in the last decade. This thesis aims at providing a thorough analysis of the particularities of McDonagh's plays on Viennese stages and consequently to guide to a profound understanding of the reception of the plays by Viennese audiences. Therefore, reactions by Viennese audiences and reviews by critics have been studied and set against the backdrop of reviews on the Irish premieres of the same plays.
