The Raunds Area Survey forms part of the Raunds Area Project - a major programme of archaeological research into landscape development. With complementary biological and historical studies, it is based primarily upon the extensive open area excavations of early prehistoric ritual and burial monuments beside the River Nene, Iron Age and Roman settlement at Stanwick, and Saxon and medieval settlement in north Raunds and West Cotton, Northamptonshire. Each of these aspects is the subject of a separate major report. The present volume gathers the results of a comprehensive and detailed fieldwalking survey which was accompanied by cropmark analysis, magnetometer survey and excavation. This evidence is interpreted together with a presentation of the methodology and results to provide an appreciation of successive land-use and change. The work includes allied environmental and documentary researches which are essential to understanding the area and its relationship to the wider region.
