Since my solo bicycle ride across America in 1995, many folks have asked me, "Bert, when are you going to write your book?" I smile and tell them, "When the time is right." It seems like eons ago since I left. Dreaming about the adventure began long before that and often, as I ride to and from work, I see, hear, and feel things that make me relive that eventful journey. Now I know it is time. I'm not sure what prompted me to consider writing it now. I just felt a deep longing inside to share the greatest adventure of my life with others I invite you to come along with me and be my partner as I relive the day to day planning and finally, the actual pedal for pedal movement from Portland, Oregon, to the Pacific Coast, and then all the way across ten states to eventually step into the Atlantic. Without any further ado, let me share with you my journey. I affectionately entitled this serialized version of the book: SOLO - A Bicycle Ride Across America. I dedicate this book to my friend, lover, and wife, Cheryl, who lived with all my eccentricities all these years and nurtured my dreams.
