As you read through Lynne's lovely book of poems and musings, you become aware that she has been able to articulate what so many others have struggled to, and yet what is so important to articulate, because these sentiments live within the heart of each of us. Her writings are heartfelt and genuine, and touch upon vital things that we lose sight of too easily in today's harried world. She reminds us to take time and smell the roses, revel in the beauty of life and love, and value each and every person we encounter. She also reminds us to celebrate our individuality ("The Greatest Gift") and uniqueness. The author invokes the "Great Spirit in the sky" to remind us that there are none wiser than the Native Americans who listen to "voices deep within nature...the beat of drums at a distance....background for the spirit dance" which give rise to the understanding that we are all "kindred spirits." But there is a dichotomy here of which we should be mindful: Although we are all kindred spirits, we are each unique and original individuals, as expressed in "Love Each Other Anyway." Many of these poems harken back to simpler times, as in "Beatnik Blues" and "The Love of Family" to which any mother can relate. As we watch our children grow into adults with families of their own, we can still see them as our own babies, and this fills our hearts with love. One of the most poignant pieces is "Soul Stirrings" which reminds us that every person who crosses our paths leaves "indelible marks on our souls" and have come into our lives for a reason. We are made up of these imprints of others, yet we are uniquely ourselves. We are made up of the impact that others have had on us, not unlike a mosaic. She leaves us with hope and optimism, because "Nothing is impossible; miracles happen every day."
