"Behind the Scenes" is an Easter play for children that is easily adaptable for use in the local church or Christian School. Approximately 25 minutes long, it contains 19 speaking parts -- 17 children and 2 adults. The play takes a look at what might have been happening "Behind the Scenes" in the spiritual realm during the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The play begins as a loving mom is trying to settle her three children down for the night. Not wanting to go to bed, they ask her to tell them a story. She then proceeds to tell them the true meaning of Easter, but with a twist. She focuses on what may have been happening with the angels and fallen angels. The play reenacts the announcement of Jesus' birth to the shepherds, the encounter between the Magi and King Herod, the temptations in the wilderness, and the crucifixion and resurrection, all from the perspective of the angelic beings -- both good and evil. Characters in the play include a mom and three children, angels, fallen angels, King Herod, King Herod's assistant, and the Magi. While the play is humourous at times, it never loses sight of the meaning of Easter, and the sacrifice of Christ is dramatically illustrated as the angels are repeatedly told to "Stand down" while Jesus suffers and dies on the cross. Purchasing "Behind the Scenes" gives you the right to make copies for your group as needed, so long as none of those copies are sold or given to a different group to use.
