I grew up in a time that Blacks, Hispanics, Women and Gays were being given rights and opportunities through affirmative action that were denied white people. This was done to try and balance the injustices of the past and create a sort of social equality. But in my case, these same minorities went further and mistreated me in numerous ways. Black kids picking on the short white kid in school, college Deans denying services to the Caucasian because his parents were perceived well off; and later in life these experiences and the desire to parent children who looked as much like me as possible affected my choices while adopting. These are the tales of a short white boy from Southern California and how he saw the world change from his fathers generation witness adult black men step into the muddy street before they would share a sidewalk with a white child into a land where gay men can force themselves onto other men without fear of reprisal.
