Emerging Technological Risk is concerned with the risk in socio-technical systems. In particular, it develops a multidisciplinary account of emerging technological risk associated with the technology systems (in which software is a major component).§Emerging Technological Risk draws on the results of a six-year multidisciplinary research project to develop an understanding of emerging technological risk in terms of a class of socio-technical hazards. It identifies and explains these hazards by means of the different case studies conducted within the project. Moreover, it reviews relevant literature. It also provides an annotated bibliography, which forms a comprehensive multidisciplinary account of technology risk.§This supports the development of understanding the complex and subtle nature of technological risk. It provides suitable reading for researchers and practitioners, who would like to enhance their understanding about the nature of technology risk. It complements and extends classical approaches to risk.

A technically qualified specialist in reliability or security can appreciate the notion of risk as a tool to address the negative effects of technology use. Recently, this topic has become quite popular among various authors dealing with computing or networking issues ... There are also many books that deal in general with risk engineering... This book has a different perspective: Anderson and Felici present the problem at a very high level and thoroughly discuss in a qualitative way the various aspects of risk that can arise due to technological developments.
