The growing focus on performance review and monitoring means that awareness and use of performance indicators has increased throughout a number of public services. Set within a national context, this book reviews the historical development and measurement issues of performance indicators within social care and the public sector for older people. David Challis is Professor of Community Care Research and Director of the Personal Social Services Research Unit at the University of Manchester, UK. He has published a number of books in the PSSRU series including: Long-Term Care: Matching Resources and Needs (co-edited); and Towards Quality Care: Outcomes for Older People in Care Homes (co-authored). Paul Clarkson is Research Fellow at the Personal Social Services Research Unit at the University of Manchester, UK. He has worked on a studies of assessment of older people, home support for people with severe mental health problems and performance measurement. Raymond Warburton works for the Department of Health, UK. He was previously Senior Research Fellow at the Personal Social Services Research Unit at the University of Kent and has substantial management experience in Social Services.
