Hawkins, Roger Roger Hawkins is Emeritus Professor in the Department of Language and Linguistics at the University of Essex. His research into how second languages are learned spans over thirty years. His publications include Second Language Syntax: A Generative Introduction (2001), Approaches to Second Language Acquisition (1994) and French Grammar and Usage (2015) with Richard Towell.
