Richard Rudgley, Jahrgang 1961, betrieb nach seinem Studium der Anthropologie, Ethnologie und Prähistorie an den Universitäten von London und Oxford ausgiebige Feldstudien in China und Kanada. 1991 wurde er mit dem British Museum Prometheus Award ausgezeichnet für seine Arbeit an "The Alchemy of Culture: Intoxicants in Society". Zur Zeit erforscht er die Verwendung psychoaktiver Pflanzen in Vorgeschichte und Antike. Richard Rudgley ist verheiratet, Vater zweier Kinder und wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford.
