Global groundwater resources play a key role in adapting to the effects of climate change. The understanding of the interactions between groundwater resources and the climate system is, however, still very limited. This book summarizes the current knowledge of this subject and addresses challenging questions, such as "How will changing precipitation patterns affect groundwater recharge and the availability of groundwater resources to support of human livelihoods and ecosystems?" or "What impacts will the increased frequency of heavy rainfall events have on groundwater quality?"
The findings presented are based on the outcomes of research applied in case studies, covering a broad range of scientific methods, and geographical and climatic settings. Further, policy recommendations are derived, making the publication of particular interest not only for scientists, but also for policy and decision makers.
