First published in 1985, Pollock and After is a collection of writings on abstract Expressionism. This revised edition, featuring ten new articles, takes account of new critical approaches to post-war American art. Section one examines the legacy of the influential Modernist critic, Clement Greenberg, including both Greenberg's own writings and the debate between T.J. Clark and Michael Fried over his contribution. Section two focuses on revisionist texts, questioning the adequacy of Modernist art history and examining the role of cultural institutions in the United States and the relationship between abstract expressionism and the politics of McCarthyism during the Cold War. The entirely new section three is devoted to recent developments of the critiques first raised by the revisionists.
