In recent years governments at all levels have introduced numerous environmental policies in an attempt to respond to the negative impacts of economic development. Despite some important successes, it is generally accepted that the policies that have been introduced have not been able to address these negative impacts in a comprehensive way. Many parties concerned with industrial growth and development are concerned about the economic implications of environmental protection and it is clear that any discussion on strategies for integration must take economic as well as environmental interests into account.
