Philip Pettit, geboren 1945 in Ballygar, Irland, ist Philosoph und Politikwissenschaftler. Nach Stationen am University College in Dublin, an der Cambridge University und der Australian National University ist er heute Laurance S. Rockefeller University Professor of Politics and Human Values an der Princeton University. Er ist seit 2009 Mitglied der American Academy of Arts and Sciences, seit 2010 Ehrenmitglied der Royal Irish Academy und seit 2013 korrespondierendes Mitglied der British Academy. Zudem war Pettit unter anderem auch als Berater der spanischen Regierung unter José Luis Zapatero tätig.
